Scarification Question

Wed Mar 12, 2008, 10:44 AM
I've got a question for everyone. I hope who ever reads this will take the time to reply.

I do not do self injury. I don't do it for a stress reliever. I do an art of scarification, and branding.

Now my question for all of you.

Is how do you view artistic branding/cutting.

For those of you who agree that this is an art. Do you feel it's appropriate to do it to yourself.

  • Mood: Suffering
  • Listening to: Otep.

Let see... i'm gonna try and reply ...as bestest as i can.. I think that for the most part.. people see it as a stress reliever and don't really understand the art behind..it..and for those that do... there isn't very many that are out there...

And as for doing it yourself.. you might wanna get someone who knows how to do it. since with infection and all.. it could get nasty...or should i say ugly..

I did self scarification when I was 13, and Im turning 19 now and look back and it was pretty fucking stupid, and Im happy my scar disappeared. As was my buddy when we were both 14, and he did self branding. I dont see it as art. Just kids with no money, wanting to do something to modify themselves and making their body look shitty. And on top of that theirs always infections and everything else.

I've done self sacrification before. Did it for years. On occasion I find I still do it even now. It's an unusual and poorly understood form of artistic therapy. It's like why people guage their ears until they touch their shoulders. It's an expression done out of the need to veer away from the common path the whole world is following. we don't want to be seen as cattle. It's like admitting we don't even exist. So we brand, we cut, we pierce, we tattoo, we split our tongues and staple our ears, shave our heads, burn our skin, scratch or scrape it off, file our teeth, sharpen our nails, change our hair and clothes, speak differently, walk and behave differently... All because there is an underlying personality begging to be freed beneath the storm in our very souls and all of this self sacrification is our way of appeasing that bestial nature without really letting it lose. And the methods we use come out as an artistic need and demand to be performed. We even do it most of the time not ever realizing that we are answering a call we can't even hear.

bah, it's mostly just honest and drawn out bullshit. Poetic words just seem to fit most situations for me so I do the best I can to tone down the philosophical nonsense and to be honest and everything just comes out all fancy. ^_^

Well... as long as it isn't anything like the "Oh, everyone else is emo and cutting themselves so I'm gonna do it too" or "I have such a sucky life and this is the only thing that makes me feel better", I don't really see how it's bad. You're not doing it as stress relief or a half-assed attempt at suicide, so there's really nothing wrong with it.

Unless you use rusty knives. That would be a bad choice.

But seriously, everyone likes different forms of art. As far as music, I love screaming. LOVE it. Bullet for My Valentine, Slipknot, In This Moment: I love them all. I love screaming myself. It's a different way of expressing myself and what I feel. Many people hate it, but I like it and I don't care.

So there. If you like it, you shouldn't give a damn what anyone else thinks. And if they say you need help, you should tell them to shutup because they're not open enough. Like religious fanatics.
